Reignite Theme

“For this reason I remind you to fan into the flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6
Fan into flame. Kindle afresh. Reignite. Whatever the translation, the message Paul is attempting to communicate to Timothy in this passage is clear: spiritual passivity is not an option. As believers, we are called to action in every sense of the word, both externally as well as internally. What good is our ministry if our teachings are hypocritical? How can we possibly help expand the Kingdom if we are simply conforming to the patterns of “cultural Christianity?”
As one who endured shipwrecks, starvation, beatings, and all around social rejection on behalf of the gospel, Paul knows what it means to actively and authentically seek the face of God. That is why his command to Timothy in this passage is so crucial: he knows exactly what he is talking about. He fully understands what it means to suffer— how easy it is to grow complacent in your faith— and yet, he has also tasted and seen the faithfulness of the Lord through his perseverance. Imparting that knowledge to Timothy is his top priority because he knows just how valuable Timothy is to the growth of the church of Ephesus during this time period.
In the same way, as staff at K-West, we understand just how valuable middle schoolers are to their communities back home. That is why we chose this verse in 2 Timothy to serve as this Summer’s anthem: spiritual passivity is not an option. Every Kamper who has walked through these gates over the past three months has been communicated that idea in some form or fashion. As believers, we are called to live like no one else… so why do we continually settle for a less than average lifestyle? Enough is enough! Allow the salvation of the Lord to radically change the trajectory of your life and to affect eternity! Go, make disciples, allowing yourself and those you encounter to be led in all truth and filled with all understanding. The Lord is our strength and our shield. Allow your flame to be reignited and trust that your labor will bear fruit. To Him be the glory forever and ever.
