School: Your Mission Field

Happy #FirstDayOfFall to our Kanakuk family! We hope as the year has kicked into full swing, all of the lessons you learned from Kamp this summer rest in your heart and that you all continue to carry the Gospel of Christ’s love with you wherever you go. There are so many ways to spread the word of God and what better place to live out this mission than at school, surrounded by others!

In Mark 16:15 Jesus tells his disciples to “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.” Learning of the Savior’s unconditional love is truly the best news that we can receive and it is the ultimate best event that can happen in our life. Remember the joy that entered your heart when you first discovered the love of the Father? There is also no greater joy than sharing that love and inviting our brothers and sisters to also receive his love.

The reality of sharing the Gospel is that it calls us to step outside our comfort zone and do something different - frankly, it can be quite intimidating because it takes courage. The good news is that Jesus gives us a comforting reminder in Matthew 28:19-20 that he will always be with us: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”. What better comfort there is than knowing his presence through every stage of life and every moment of our day!

Knowing that he is with us, what are some practical ways we can share the Gospel at school? We can use our testimony and actions each day to show friends, classmates, and teachers what Christ has done in our lives and show gratitude in our actions and words. For example, we can sit with a new person at lunch, offer to help our teacher or practice sportsmanship even when the other team wins. It may not always be easy but the transparency of Christ’s love and his light will shine through all that we do!

Recall Matthew 5:14-16?You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven”.

When we leverage our activities, our classes, even our studying time as an opportunity to spread the gospel, we create new opportunities to let God's light to shine in the lives of others and within our own lives. It develops a sense of purpose, love, and belonging even within the tiniest acts, it fosters the platform and opportunity to be refreshed and filled in the love of God.

Let’s all be light to others and shine the goodness of God’s love to all that we meet!
