Prayer: Through Challenges

Every valley makes way for a mountain to rise.

This is a simple, powerful illustration for us as believers—when we begin trodding through the valleys or challenging times in life, God remains by our side. The Lord is present with us during all of our days—the good, the bad and the in-between. His love for us never changes, even when the world around us seems to tremble and shake with doubt and uncertainty.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.

Psalm 46:1-3

In the midst of challenges, our human nature makes it easy to be fearful. But we can take our trials and requests to God in prayer, knowing that He is ready and willing to lead us through illness, anxiety, depression, broken relationships, family arguments and everything else that comes our way.

When we walk with Christ through the difficult seasons of our lives, He gives us His peace and eternal joy. The darkness may come, but we can have certain hope in the Lord’s help, just as we know that the sun will rise each morning.

In the difficult times, it is easy to focus on getting through all the things that lie ahead, that we forget how far the Lord has carried us already. When we pray to God for help, He reminds us that He is our rest and strength in times of need, our very present help and comforter.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23: 1-4

Everything may seem like it is falling apart, but God uses these trials to grow us in faith. God is working, all that is left for us to do is to have confidence and faith in his plan. Once we trust Him with our lives, we can more easily see Him moving throughout the day.

Challenges may seem difficult to overcome, but with open hearts, prayer and patience, the Lord brings us His perfect strength. In His strength and will, we can do all things.

Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

Isaiah 40: 31

We are called to set our eyes on God and follow His path as He shapes us to become more like Him. We are precious in His sight, and He never leaves us on our own.

The next mountain that we face, can we pray and trust God, rather than fearing the climb? His power allows us to climb to the heights. The hardships we face are only temporary; He has already won every battle for us. Will we rise to life’s challenges by taking them to God in faithful prayer?
