Last week on our blog we shared the testimony of Mason Fender, a life long Kamper.
Summer is quickly approaching and we couldn’t be more excited! For the past month we have been sharing testimonies of Kamp on our social channels for #TestimonyTuesday and getting FUAGNMEN for each of you to arrive this summer.
Today on our blog we want to continue with sharing testimonies from Kamp and we are very grateful that a previous life long Kamper, Mason Fender has offered to share her testimony of Kanakuk.
My Kamp Story
by Mason Fender
When I was in first grade, I once misspelled the word “camp” because my sister went to a “Kamp” spelled with a “K”. At seven years old, I had no idea how much that four letter word would come to mean to me. Looking back, 14 years later, my heart still swells with excitement whenever I hear the Word “Kanakuk”. Some of my greatest memories have come from those Ozark Mountains and countless hours in the sun on Table Rock Lake. Throughout my years at Kamp, I learned practical skills such as how to be away from my parents, how to form new friendships, and how to jump off of scary tall towers onto blob-like-things that float on water.
On a more serious note, I was challenged in ways that have impacted not only my life here on earth, but also my eternity. Kanakuk taught me at a young age what it looked like to live a life fully surrendered to the Lord. I saw incredible examples of young adults who were on fire for the Lord and living to bring Him glory. My eyes were opened to the possibility of a life undivided in devotion to a perfect Creator. As I grew older, Kanakuk continued to provide me with new challenges and opportunities to grow. From serving my peers to having the incredible experience of being a counselor, I have learned so much from my time at Kanakuk. I have grown in servant leadership, confidence, ability to be coached and spiritual maturity. I have created lifelong friendships with people who bring laughter and joy into my life.
What I am most thankful for however, is that Kanakuk gave me tangible examples of what it looks like to live a life with Christ. It opened my eyes to the fact that the excitement of Kamp is not confined to two-weeks or a month, but is rooted on being in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. They helped plant a foundation that the Lord has, and will continue to build on throughout my life.
Kanakuk challenged me in all the right ways, always pulling me just far enough out of my comfort zone to see the Lord from a whole new perspective, and to passionately want more of Him in my life. I am eternally grateful for the work that God has done in my life through Kanakuk and know that I would not be the woman I am today if it had not been for the people who poured Jesus into me through exciting adventures in Christian athletics.
Mason is a Junior Pre-Physicians Assistant student at Baylor University. She was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Mason is passionate about all things Jesus, medicine, and sugar.
