Kanakuk Summer Theme Verse Throwbacks

Happy 2020, Kanakuk family! Can you believe it? We’re almost all the way through the first month in a brand new decade, full of fresh possibilities, renewed joy and a million reasons to be thankful. The end of another month also means… SUMMER is closer than ever!

As we head into the summer season, we’re excited to reveal 2020’s theme verse this week on Thursday, January 30. Until then, to get HYPED for our brand-new, never-been-done-before theme, let’s take a trip down memory lane to reminisce and rediscover the verses and phrases that inspired us all in summers past!

2013 // ALL IN

In 2013, we lived by Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Going “ALL IN” during summer 2013 brought our Kamp Family together to grow stronger through Christ!

Sometimes, the pressures of school, peers and work can drain our “batteries.” But, we were not meant to take on the weight of the world alone. In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul writes, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.”

Summer 2014 was a much-needed reprieve from our busy lives, letting us leave the summer Fully Charged and ready to tackle any challenge with the knowledge of God’s power and grace!

In 2015, we redefined what it means to “change the game.” From serving one another diligently to being leaders among our peers, we kept Christ front-and-center by studying Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

2016 // RUN FREE

Day-to-day life can feel busy, busy, busy! Instead of continuously running to the next task or responsibility, we took the summer of 2016 to run into the arms of our Father, inspired by Psalm 119:32, “I shall run the way of Your commandments, for You will enlarge my heart.”

With this verse on our hearts throughout the summer, we followed a common hope to live in the peaceful freedom that comes from following Christ!

2017 // I’M THIRD

Growing up, we all heard the acronym for JOY: Jesus, Others, Yourself. But during summer 2017, we came together to learn what it really means to put yourself third, as we read in Matthew 22:37-39: “And He said to him,You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

True, Christ-like love is putting the needs of others before your own. “I’m Third” is a way of life that has flown like a banner over Kamp since the earliest days of Kanakuk—and it’s a timeless truth we strive to honor forever and ever!

2018 // RE-IGNITE

The sweetest gift we receive from Kamp is our Christ-filled community! The Lord spoke into our hearts during 2018 with the message found in 2 Timothy 1:6, which points out: “For this reason, I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you...” We left summer 2018 feeling refreshed and on fire for the Lord!

2019 // SHINE

As little children we sang “This Little Light of Mine,” a nursery rhyme that affirms how we each have the light of our Savior living inside of us! Our 2019 theme reminded us that we must let the joy of the Lord shine, as we remembered 1 John 1:5-7: “...God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all…but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another...”
