We have nearly a century of experience with Kampers and families. We understand you have questions, and we want to help you answer them.

Below are common questions we receive. If your question is not listed, if you would like more information about one of the answers below, or if you would like to talk to us - no problem, we've got you covered.

Is my child ready for overnight Kamp?


Great question! Every child is growing towards independence and you know best where they are on that journey! If this is your child's first experience away from home, summer camp can be a very safe and positive time of growth. We've found that kids do great when they are excited about the activities available at Kanakuk and parents have regular conversations with them about packing, planning for parties, and working on independent tasks they'll do at Kamp.


How do we send medications for our Kampers?

Place medications in a plastic bag along with instructions on an index card. All medications must be in the original container.

Is a trunk a requirement? Where do I buy one?

Trunks are not a requirement, but they make transporting and keeping luggage clean, organized, and convenient. Duffle bags and suit cases are welcome. Luggage may not be more than 15.5" tall. A good source for trunks is www.trunkoutletkanakuk.com.

What are the party themes for this year?

Party themes are released for the summer by March 1. Visit http://kanakukparties.com for more information or view costume ideas on our Pinterest page: http://pintrest.com/kanakukkamps.  Kampers can be decked out in a costume, bring one or two accessories or just show up for a great time!

What do I need to pack for my child?

Each Kamp has a specific packing list you can use as a guide for your Kamper. You can view each Kamp's individual packing list here.




K-Kauai Family Kamp

Would a single parent feel comfortable attending Family Kamp?

Absolutely! We have many single parents who bring their children and have a fantastic time! Some of our speakers may emphasize the marriage relationship in their teaching, but since we also cover topics like conflict resolution, raising children in today's world, etc - there is always something for everyone.

What are the room accomodations at Family Kamp like?

Each of our cabanas is very similar to a large motel room- with sleeping for six. There is a queen sized bed, a couch that comes out to a double, a set of bunk beds, and two private bathrooms. 

What time does K-Kauai open on Opening Day?

K-Kauai opens at 4:00 PM on Opening Day!

When is check out time on the last day of the term?

Check out is after breakfast on the last day of the term. Most families are gone by 10:00 am.

What should we pack for our time at K-Kauai?

You should bring casual clothing, costumes for theme nights, toiletries, beach towels, traveling iron and hair dryer if desired, sunscreen and insect repellant, laundry detergent and an ample supply of quarters (if you desire to do laundry during your stay).

Is there a doctor on site?

We share a doctor with K-Kountry, a neighboring kamp. However, we have nursing staff available at K-Kauai and are a five minute drive away from a quality hospital.

Is there a microwave, coffee pot, and refrigerator in the cabana?

There is a small refrigerator in each cabana for snacks. A microwave is available in the dining hall. There are no coffee pots in the cabanas. 

Is there a curfew?

There is no curfew for guests. However, our staff will be in bed by 11:30 PM  so they can be ready to serve again the next morning. 

Are there any restrictions we should know about?

Please no alcohol or tobacco on the Kanakuk island. Also, there are no pets allowed. 

Is there Wi-Fi available on the Island?

While it is not available in the cabanas, Wi-Fi is available in the Bean, Chapel and Game Room. 

KampOut! Information

What is KampOuts! Cancellation policy?

All cancellations must be submitted in writing or e-mailed to reg@kanakuk.com. If you cancel your registration before May 15th you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your registration after May 15th but more than 7 days before the start of your KampOut! term a $100 forfeiture fee will apply. You will forfeit your entire tuition payment if you cancel your registration within 7 days of the start of the term. No refunds of prorated tuition will be made if your child is absent or withdraws before the end of the KampOut! term.

What is the schedule for closing ceremonies?

Can my Kamper drive themself to Kamp?

Yes. However, they must turn in their keys at the Kamp office upon arrival. Keys will not be returned until the last day of Kamp.

Can I bring mail/packages for each day at the beginning of the term?

Yes! Our office girls are glad to deliver your daily mail/packages to your Kamper. Label each item with the date that you want it delivered to your Kamper and bring all of it by the office on opening day. Please do not send gum, candy, or food. 

What time do the gates open for Opening Day?

Gates open at 2:00 PM on the first day of each term. 

Can we purchase items from the Kamp store during closing ceremonies?

Absolutely! The Kamp store is open during Kamp's closing ceremonies. 

Can I walk my child to their cabin and help make their bed?

We welcome parents to share in their child's arrival during the drop off times during opening day of each term. We would love for you to help your camper get settled in, make their bed and meet their counselors. We request that the time be minimal so the counselors and other Kampers can begin getting acquainted.


When is my final payment due for KampOut!?

The full payment for KampOut! is due at the time of registration. Tuition payments are NOT tax deductible. If you elect to pay your deposit or tuition amount via electronic check, you authorize Kanakuk to initiate debit entries to your checking or savings account in the amount and period you specify. Your account will be charged Kanakuk’s actual cost for each returned payment. No refund will be made for absences, dismissals or withdrawals before the end of the camp term.

When is my final payment due for Overnight Kamp?

Final payments are due on March 1st. For enrollments after March 1st, full payment is due at the time of registration. You can check your balance, set-up monthly payments or make a payment by visiting mykanakuk.com

When is my final payment due for Family Kamp?

Final payments are due on February 1st. For enrollments after February 1st, full payment is due at the time of registration. You can check your balance, set-up monthly payments or make a payment by visiting mykanakuk.com

What is the deadline to cancel and still have my deposit refunded?

Cancellations after March 1st will forfeit the $200 deposit. For details regarding tuition refund policies, please reference your signed Terms and Conditions under your Kampers registration details.

Do you have scholarships available?

Yes! Because of the generosity of donors, there are scholarships available. You can contact the Registration Office for an application to see if you qualify for any scholarships.

Can I make monthly payments?

YES! You can set-up monthly payments in mykanakuk.com or contact Crystal in our Accounting department at 417.266.3233.

Can I pay with a Credit Card?

Yes! We can accept checks, electronic checks, or you may pay using your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

When can my Kamper complete his/her online activity schedule?

Online activity scheduling (available at K-West and K-2) opens on October 1st. These classes are first-come, first-served and will fill quickly! 

How do I make changes to my registration?

Email reg@kanakuk.com with your Kamper's name, Kamp and term they are registered for, and your requested change. 

While my child is at Kamp

If my oldest child is in one tribe, will that affect what tribe my younger child will be in?

The tribe that your older child is in will only dictate what tribe your younger child will be in if they are the same gender. Girl and boy tribes are not linked together in any way. 

What are tribes?

Tribes are groups that our Kampers are put in during their time at Kanakuk. They are used for devotionals and competition. Once assigned a tribe, your Kamper will remain in that tribe every year they are a Kamper. There are four total tribes, two for girls and two for boys. The girl tribes are Kiowa and Kickapoo. The boy tribes are Cherokee and Choctaw. 

How many cabins are at K-Kountry?

At K-Kountry, we call our cabins "barns". We have 12 boy barns and 12 girls barns. Kampers are assigned to each barn by birthdate. 

How many Kampers are in a tent at KampOut!?

We assign 10-12 Kampers to each tent by birthdate, and 1 counselor is assigned to each tent. 

How can I communicate with my Scuba Kamper while at Kamp?

Due to the structure of our Scuba Kamp program, e-mail is the best way! Login to your My kanakuk account for more information. 

Is sporting equipment provided, or do we send our child's personal equipment?

All sporting equipment will be provided for your Kamper. There is no need to send sports equipment. Personal gear can be used, but there is limited storage space and Kanakuk Ministries cannot be held liable for loss or damage to personal sports equipment.

How do you handle bed wetting issues?

Like you, our intent is to protect your Kampers heart and privacy. If bed wetting occurs, bunks are stripped, cleaned, and changed prior to cabin mates returning to the cabin/teepee.

Do boys and girls interact with each other?

There are a few limited co-ed events. These include things like K-Life praise and worship and parties. However, they do not participate in sports together.

What is ok to send to my Kamper in a care package?

Our Kampers love getting fun care packages from home! Things that are OK are items such as card games, coloring books, bracelets, stationary and envelopes. Things that are NOT ok are water ballons, candy, gum, food, drinks and anything perishable.  

How many Kampers are in a cabin?

We assign 10-12 Kampers to each cabin by birthdate, and 2-3 counselors are in each cabin.

Do we need to send twin sheets sets with our Kampers?

Yes, please send a twin sheet set with your Kamper.
