Can you believe January is almost over? You may have noticed this past week that we’re having to work a bit harder to keep up those New Year’s resolutions. The cravings are returning, the daily agendas are filling and the temptation to abandon our 2015 goals is getting stronger. This week is make or break! It’s time to decide: are we going to persevere?
Resolutions are tough to keep, but the pay-off is well worth the patience and hard work! At Kanakuk, we make an important resolution each year to lead—your family, Kampers, staff members and directors—into a deeper relationship with Christ and a greater desire to serve those around them. We strive to grow in excellence in every area, improving our leadership and service to our Kamp family. We’ve resolved to make 2015 the best year yet!
We want to encourage you, too, to teach good leadership to your family this year. As you lead your children, you have the opportunity to shape them into godly leaders as well. It’s never too early to instruct your kids on Christ-like leadership! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says,
“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.”
In order to help our children grow into mature leaders in their friend groups and communities, there are two qualities that we must inspire and cultivate: confidence & competence.
Before our child can lead, they must know that they can. One of our most important roles as parents is to instill a sense of assurance into our kids. The best way we can do this is to show them who they are in Christ. Remind them that God created them for a purpose, and with that purpose he equips them with the strength and wisdom to accomplish His plans. Confidence comes from relying on the Lord and learning from His Word!
Competence is key in leadership. Excellent work gains the respect of others and gives our kids a platform from which they can lead others. Encouraging diligence and discipline in your children will help them grow in every task they undertake. We can help them excel by helping them find their passions and then providing them with the resources and wisdom to pursue them. Instead of working on their weaknesses, affirm their strengths and inspire them to hone them as much as possible!
Let’s make 2015 a year where we build our families into stand out godly leaders in our communities. Kanakuk is here to help you do just that! For daily encouragement and Kamp resources, follow us on Twitter & Facebook!
