No Need to Stress

Spring is here, summer is coming and we’re busier than ever! It seems this season is ruled by to-do lists, projects and agendas. We easily get caught up in the details of each day, quickly becoming overwhelmed and burdened by our many responsibilities. We’re pulled in an impossible number of directions, and our inability to do everything incites worry, frustration and ultimately, disappointment. It’s easy to forget that busyness often leads to burnout.

When we forsake rest, we lose sight of our main purpose. God’s greatest desire for us is to rejoice in Jesus and to make Him known. At the end of each day, that is the measure of our productivity, effectiveness and efficiency. If we can answer “yes” to the question: Did I love others in a way that made Christ known today? we can count each day a spectacular success.

Amidst the stress of our schedules, it may feel like we don’t have the energy to love others as compassionately or consistently as Jesus did. But the “I’m Third” life is not marked by our ability to put God and others before ourselves, but by our willingness to let Jesus work in and through us. He simply asks us to rest and surrender. Psalm 138:8 promises us,

“The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”

What comforting knowledge! Consider this idea from a few different angles:

The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.

The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.

The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.

The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.

The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.

No matter how we look at it, we’re confronted by the awesome reality that God is working on our behalf. He will carry out every plan He has for us, so we never need to worry. Having this eternal perspective will allow us to go through each busy day with joy and peace, knowing that God’s greatest purpose will be accomplished in us!
