February is the month of love! Flowers, gifts and all kinds of treats fill the aisles of every store. This season’s celebrations are everywhere!
It’s a joy to share in the fun of this holiday. Who doesn’t need a good reason to eat a box of chocolate?! Valentine’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to show special admiration and encouragement to those around you. It’s a day where we can go the extra mile to show others that we care!
But, as we know, love is much more than cards and candy. Real love can’t be bought. True love—the love of Jesus—is a much greater gift than the kind we give on Valentine’s Day.
Unlike the love the world offers, Jesus’ love is sacrificial, unconditional and never-ending. He showed His radical love by dying on a cross, making sure that we have complete & eternal forgiveness of our sins. He made this sacrifice not because we are deserving, but simply because He loves us. That’s right, Jesus loves us because He loves us! This truth is proven in 1 John 4:16:
“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
God’s love is cyclical—it’s everlasting and depends only upon itself. That means there is nothing we can do to make Him love us any more or any less. This is a love that both frees and satisfies us! It is so much more than any kind of love bought at a store or written in card.
It’s this kind of love that we get to celebrate and share this Valentine’s Day. And so we’re asking you, Kanakuk family—what does Jesus’ love mean to you?
