Intentional gratitude is always top-of-mind this time of year, with Thanksgiving quickly approaching. With the hustle and bustle of life, it’s often easy to forget that expressing gratitude applies to all seasons of our lives. As believers, we are called to be grateful in all situations and to live with the joy of the Lord.
Pray. Proclaim. Practice.
From the moment we’re born, our entire life is measured by growth. As newborns, we’re weighed to the ounce and measured to the quarter of an inch. As we get older, we attend check-up after check-up to ensure that we are growing at a healthy rate. In our homes, we often have a wall dedicated to a series of tally marks documenting height as we grow throughout childhood.
As humans, we put a heavy emphasis on physical growth. As Christ followers, it’s just as important to grow spiritually.
Since November is a month to give thanks for life’s blessings, it’s our goal to show gratitude in real, tangible ways over the next few weeks. Let’s be intentional about “Growing in Gratefulness,” a powerful phrase that serves as one of our Kanakuk Link Year pillars. Just like our muscles require exercise to grow in strength, our heart requires prayer and purpose to grow in gratitude.
As a Kanakuk community, let’s head down this path of intentional gratitude together! We’ll be introducing three themes—PRAY, PROCLAIM and PRACTICE—and asking our Kanakuk family to participate in each one. This November, we will…
Pray over who and what we are thankful for.
Proclaim our gratitude to others.
Practice kindness with random acts of meaningful gestures.
Of course, we’re going to have some fun along the way by rewarding a grand prize to one Kanakuk Family member for joining our #GrowingInGratefulness movement!
How can you get involved?
Week One: November 4–10, 2018
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Challenge: Set aside time each day to pray over the people, places or things that you are thankful for. Make someone’s day by letting them know they were in your prayers. (You can do this by tagging them in our PRAYER post on November 8!)
Week Two: November 11–17, 2018
Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Social Media Challenge: Proclaim your gratitude for all to see by posting about what or who you are thankful for this November! It can be your favorite photo from Kamp, a great picture of you and a friend or family member, or even the text of your favorite Bible verse.
GIVEAWAY: Choose a photo to share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and proclaim your gratitude in the caption using #GrowingInGratefulness. Be sure to tag Kanakuk, and we’ll repost some of our favorites on our Instagram Stories. One person who proclaims their gratefulness on social media will be selected at random to receive some fresh, cold-weather Kanakuk swag!
Week Three: November 18–24, 2018
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
Challenge: Pay it forward! Give someone else a reason to be grateful—this is truly the practice of #GrowingInGratefulness. This week, focus on actions to make others feel loved and appreciated: handwritten notes, helping your parents around the house, baking something for those in need in your community. Then, encourage those around you to do the same. The options to practice gratitude are endless!
This November... go ahead, show others your gratitude! Let’s aim to fill November with prayers, proclamations and practices of gratefulness—together. Will you join us?
